We salute and welcome our new (and beloved) president, Barack Obama! May the Cosmos smile upon him and bless him with wisdom and the ability to guide our troubled nation along the path of service and prosperity for the betterment of our nation and all the world.
May we, the American people, join hands, hearts, and minds so that we may bring our country back to the greatness of peace and justice and unlimited opportunity for all our people. Let us not fall into apathy or despair as we work to make our country the shining bastion of freedom and goodness that we all believe it should be.
Hope and faith have won the day. May it continue to help us in our work.
So mote it be!

balance out the non-magical crowd energy I face on a daily basis (living in SF does have its drawback despite the liberal 'tude in this town).
I'm working the Green Room as a staffer this year and am glad I can put in the time to help out. I hope some of my friends will come see me there! Don't know my schedule yet but I'm pretty sure I'll be free to hit the party scene...sure don't wanna miss the awesome pirate party some dear friends are planning. I'm wondering if the Absynthe Party is gonna happen again this year...anyone know?

PBS running poll on Sarah Palin. AFA counters by running poll on Barack Obama.
Of course their poll is quietly self-fulfilling, since they only send it to their constituents. Makes them feel like they are winning the public opinion...and while they aren't, it may make some of those who are uncertain want to vote with those that seem (according to this poll) to be winning. So, send this to everyone you know who may be willing to vote in this poll, to counter their self-fulfillment attempt. Here's the URL:

Just wanted to put out a reminder to those interested...Folsom Street Fair is happening this Sunday.
A friend just told me that the band, Berlin, is scheduled to perform on one of the big stages at 5 pm. I'll be there for sure! ;^)
I, and a few others, will hit the Faire shortly after the 49er's game on Sunday. I'll be sporting some new leather (can't hardly wait!!) and will possibly helping a friend at his leather garment booth for a while (9th & Folsom, I believe).
So, come on all ye freaks! Join the teaming leather-clad (or not, in some cases) masses for SF's most shocking and amusing street fairs!

Had an awesome time with my mom at Faire this weekend down at Casa de Fruita!
Since it was my mother who first introduced me to the Renaissance Faire when I was 16, way back when Southern Faire was held at Agoura (the height of Faire days in my opinion), I felt really touched that I could play at Faire with her again. I got the chance to tell her how much that first time in Agoura changed my life...how it opened my imagination and bade me see life in a different way. It may seem really selfish, but I'm glad I could tell mom, once again, how much she's influenced me and how grateful I will remain to her for her open-mindedness, sense of adventure, and strength. I feel I get most of my best qualities from her and it felt good for me to say that to her right out loud.
We stayed down at the Best Western in Hollister and made our leasurely way to Faire, arriving there and parking (in the Preferred Lot...worth the $10.00) at around 10:30. Once inside, we wandered around and found the leather shop where she bought me a new belt (since I'd left my original at home). This new one is oxblood-colored with a cool celtic weave design burned into it...matches my costume perfectly. I bought myself a mead and told mom that it just wasn't Faire for me until I imbibed my first draft and she cheerily agreed with me, though she doesn't drink.
There were a lot of vendors selling amazing and beautiful things, though the prices were really high. I suspect it's because of the economy, but it makes it difficult for people to buy their wares.
I finally got what I've been seeking high and low throughout all the small Faires I attend: a small ocarina. Yay! It's in the shape of a dragon's head. The coolest thing about it is that there is a little eyepatch on his eye and a little hoop earring in his ear. What's better than an ocarina? One shaped like a pirate dragon's head, of course! I already know a simple tune and am thoroughly enamored with it. *grin*
We watched a couple of the comedy shows and tooks some pix. We ate bratwursts and drank chai tea. We gave away small bits of money here and there to the "street" performers (both of being so fond of musicians, don't ya know?). We saw an amazing "baby stroller" which is really a carved out barrel lined with rabbit fur on wheel-barrow-like wheels. The little girl inside was simply precious and mom couldn't resist getting a pic of the child and the amazing conveyance.
I ran into my friend, Johanna from PA, and chatted with her a few minutes. Really good to see her. She told us we picked the right weekend to come. Apparently, last weekend (opening) the weather rose to 106 degrees in the heat of the day.
I know I haven't mentioned the delicious men at Faire. And there were a lot of them there, much to my delight. Despite the fact I was with mom, I managed to flirt with a few cuties. A very nice man came up to me and recited a Shakespeare sonnet to me. He received kisses from me for his efforts. Mom was intrigued by Rory, a rather attractive older gentleman dressed very convincingly as a pirate. I mainly had my eye on a tall, likely lad, but he was working as a soldier for the queen's court and was mostly unavailble for outright flirting. We exchanged a lot of eye contact and smiles, though, and maybe next time I go I'll get a chance to chat him up.
After Faire we went to the Casa de Fruita restaurant for some mediocre but modestly priced cuisine and talked over our day.
This weekend will be indelibly engraved in my memory, just as my first time at Faire is. I'm so incredibly grateful that my mom is still around to play with me. (bowing down to the Cosmos here)
